Free School Meals
Many of our families could get free school meals but do not claim for them; your child may be entitled to Free School Meals if you as the parent are in receipt of any of the following benefits:
- Income Support
- Jobseeker’s Allowance (income based)
- Employment and Support Allowance
- Support under the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- Guaranteed element of State Pension Credit
- Child Tax Credit (but NOT Working Tax Credit)
Why claim?
- Save hundreds of pounds per year
- Extra funding for the school in the form of Pupil Premium
- It’s your entitlement
- Other pupils and parents will not know you are claiming
At Longhill Primary School all children in our reception class, year one and year two receive a free school lunch if they wish, and it is not necessary for any parents to fill in a Free School Meals application form in order to access the free meals.
However, we are able to claim extra money from the government which we use to help us provide further support for our children, and this money is linked to parents applying for Free School Meals. In order to continue claiming this money from the government, we need parents to re-register for Free School Meals.
So, if you receive a benefit that gives entitlement to Free School meals (as detailed above) please pop in to school reception where they can provide a form and you help fill it out.
