I hope you had an enjoyable and restful Easter.

The new Summer term is well underway and the children have been making use of the warmer and sunnier weather by taking their lessons outside. The staff have had training on how to make the most of the outdoor environment to support learning and your children have certainly enjoyed using their outdoor classrooms. Later on in the term we would like to invite you into school to take part in some outdoor learning with the children.

I hope you shared my excitement in hearing that we have been successful in our bid to extend the school building to create a cooking kitchen, much larger dining room and a new classroom. The plans are currently on view in the reception area so feel free to come in and have a look at what’s in store. Lots of work is currently underway to finalise the plans and obtain planning permission, all of this takes time but I will keep you updated every step along the way. It is anticipated that the work will start at the beginning of the Summer holidays and will be completed in the Spring of 2016.

Attendance continues to be an issue for the school this year and currently stands at 95.1%. The national average for attendance is around 96% and, whilst this may seem a small gap, it represents hundreds more missed sessions of valuable education. I am really pleased to say that 73% of our children have attendance rates of above 96% and we have more children achieving 100% than ever before which is great news. I will be sending out an attendance letter next Friday which will contain more information.
